Ivory Crush - Central Park, NYC 2017

Angry Elephant would like to thank all of you that came out to support the Ivory Crush Event in New York City's Central Park on Thursday, August 3, 2017. Although it was a successful event and we had a large turnout, it was very bittersweet! To see the tremendous amount of illegal ivory that was confiscated and destroyed at what experts estimate at more than 100 elephant lives is disheartening.

The event was organized by N.Y.S. Dept. of Environmental Conservation (DEC), Wildlife Conservation Society, African Wildlife Foundation and a coalition of leading wildlife conservation groups, with support from Tiffany & Co.. They seized over 2 tons and 8 million dollars of illegal ivory to be placed in the rock crusher. You can view some of these expensive and elaborate illegal items in our photos. Some of these pieces were valued at more the $800,000 on the illegal trade market.  Individuals who owned illegal ivory pieces were allowed to come up to the rock crusher and place their pieces on the conveyor belt to be destroyed.
